IONA’s 360 Vision is the Company’s approach to life. Inspired by Japanese butoh teachings merged with Artistic Director Cheryl Flaharty’s interest in consciousness, IONA’s work on and off the stage has developed into a highly spiritual practice. Meditative exercises nurture the strength of the right brain and its qualities of intuition, oneness, and vision. The expansion of right brain awareness quiets the left brain, diminishing ego and opening the connection to the universe.
IONA’s 360 Vision is to participate, through this work, in the global change in human consciousness we are undergoing, leading us to a fuller awareness of our relationship to all things – our oneness. When you sit in your seat at an IONA performance, the dancers are behind the curtain meditating on expanding their auras out to the universe to establish a line of radiant energy that connects each dancer to each audience member in the theater. The IONA dancer is a window to the Universe; their eyes the gateway to catch a glimpse of the all; and their bodies the archetypal screen of transference.
